Tea Palace created Irish Breakfast as a stronger, more robust and full-bodied play on our Palace Breakfast tea - a real awakening for those looking for a little extra kick! This blend is strong and spicy and yet has a fresh and herbaceous finish which drinks perfectly with milk.

Irish Breakfast is a well-known blend throughout the UK and beyond, and is known for its strong, spicy, full-bodied character from the predominance of Assam in the blend. We have put our own twist on this classic by blending it with Darjeeling to cultivate a smooth, herbaceous finish.

This black breakfast tea blend is wonderfully energising and formed from only the finest quality, whole-leaf Indian black tea leaves picked in the prime of the season for a strong tea of outstanding quality.

A deliciously strong breakfast tea, Irish Breakfast can be enjoyed with milk and sweetener to taste.

About Irish Breakfast

Irish Breakfast tea is a robust and full-bodied black tea blend that is traditionally associated with Ireland. It's a type of black tea that is known for its strong, bold flavor and dark color. The blend typically includes a combination of Assam, Ceylon, and Kenyan teas, chosen for their rich and malty characteristics.

The history of Irish Breakfast tea can be traced back to the 19th century when the popularity of black tea blends began to rise in Europe. However, the exact origins and the person or company responsible for creating the Irish Breakfast blend are not well-documented. It is likely that it evolved as a response to the growing demand for strong and robust teas in Ireland.

Irish Breakfast tea differs from English Breakfast tea in terms of both flavour and blend composition. The differences can be attributed to regional preferences, the availability of certain tea varieties, and the desire to create a distinct tea experience.

Irish Breakfast Tea: Typically consists of a strong blend of Assam, Ceylon, and Kenyan teas. Assam teas are known for their malty and bold character, while Ceylon teas contribute brightness and briskness. Kenyan teas add depth and robustness to the blend.

English Breakfast Tea: Traditionally includes a blend of Assam, Ceylon, and sometimes Kenyan or Chinese teas. The proportions and specific varieties can vary, but the aim is to create a well-balanced and strong cup of tea.

English Breakfast Tea Tends to be a bit milder compared to Irish Breakfast tea, and is known for its well-rounded flavour, with a balance of maltiness, briskness, and a hint of sweetness.

Irish Breakfast Tea however is often described as bold, robust, and malty. It has a strong, full-bodied flavour with a noticeable astringency. The combination of Assam, Ceylon, and Kenyan teas creates a hearty and satisfying cup.

Irish Breakfast was developed to suit the taste preferences of the Irish, who favour strong and robust teas that can stand up well to the addition of milk and sugar.
